University City Science Center 2023 Impact Report

BACKGROUND

The Science Center’s 2023 Impact Report, An Enduring Impact, celebrates the organization’s 60-year legacy of progress in the greater Philadelphia region.

They had earmarked a cover from the previous year’s annual report design concepts as one that would work really well for 2023—a look that is a lighter, more vibrant evolution from some of the previous annual reports we had designed for them (which were still beautiful, but in a higher contrast, dark mode kind-of-way).

While the Science Center wanted to mark this important milestone in the report, they didn’t want it to take over the entire design, preferring instead to focus more on the wins of the previous year.

Above is the original style tile meant for the 2022 Impact Report—with vibrant colors and a little bit of retro-futurism mixed in. Luckily, it also worked well for the 60th anniversary report.

The theme of impact is expressed through radiating circles and controlled grid patterns that are woven with the content, signaling both the waves of impact and the thoughtful approach to science and technology that the Science Center has had over its long tenure in University City.

Using spots of bright colors in the report was also a nod to the vibrant community that the Science Center is always striving to cultivate through its programs and events.

We also had the opportunity to animate some social posts for Science Center to share their impact from both the past year and the past six decades (including a feature spot for the 60th anniversary bug that we created).
